Quantitative Research

Quantitative research is the use of scientific inquiry to collect and analyze numerical data for the purpose of learning or understanding more about a sample population: describe characteristics, identify correlations, & test hypotheses. This is for you if you are a communication researcher, social scientist, graduate student, community health researcher, health and human services researcher or anyone interested in learning how to find, interpret, and understand causal relationships in the society.

Quantitative Research Seminar Focus

At this international seminar, experts will provide an overview, discuss use of quantitative research methods in answering research questions for academics, graduate students and professionals. They will also discuss examples of real life applications of quantitative research methods in Nigeria and other parts of the globe.

Prof. Charles Okigbo

Facilitator

He is  an Emeritus professor of Strategic Communication at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND, and was formerly Executive Coordinator of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE).

Dr. Nuhu Gapsiso

Facilitator

Nuhu Diraso Gapsiso is an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. He holds a PhD in Mass Communication. Nuhu resides and lectures in Maiduguri.

Dr. Romi Gomez

Facilitator

With a PhD in applied statistics, Romi Gomez was the Director of Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of medicine. He is currently the senior biostatistician for one of Chicago’s most comprehensive cancer treatment centers. 

Dr. Lambe Kayode Mustapha

Facilitator

Dr. Lambe Kayode Mustapha is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin. He holds a Bachelor and Master Degree in Mass Communication from the prestigious University of Lagos and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Communication from International Islamic University (IIUM) Malaysia.

Dr. Meghan Sobel Cohen

Facilitator

She  is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and the Master of Development Practice at Regis University in Denver, Colorado, USA. Her research focuses on digital development and the role of news media in combatting human rights abuses and humanitarian crises around the world, particularly in East Africa.

Prof. Idowu Sobowale

Facilitator

He was twice acting head at the University of Lagos’ Department of Mass Communication and later headed the School of Communication and Media Studies at the Lagos State University, Olabisi Onabanjo University and Covenant University, both in Ogun State. He also has had a stint at McPherson University in Ogun State, where he is still on their faculty.

DR CHUKS ODIEGWU-ENWEREM is a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, National Open University of Nigeria Abuja. He holds the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mass Communication from Covenant University, Nigeria. Dr Enwerem is a thorough bred communication professional and scholar having also obtained an MSc and a BA in the same discipline from University of Lagos and University of Nigeria, Nsukka, respectively. Before coming into academics, Dr Enwerem had a robust, hands-on corporate communication and media consulting experience with topnotch organizationswithin the telecoms, banking, and manufacturing sectors in corporate Nigeria.

Prof Chinedu Mba

JPDS-KH Steering Committee Chair

Experienced Professor and administrator in the higher education industry. Demonstrated experience in the following areas: Developmental Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Program Development & Management, Student Success & Retention, Strategic Enrolment Management, Academic Planning, and Academic Advising & Coaching. Strong education professional with a Master’s degree focused in Educational Studies: Higher Education Leadership from University of Alberta. As the Chairperson of the Jacksonites Professional Development Series steering committee, she leads a global team and interfaces with partners toward the actualization of the mission of the initiative.
